Country Road, Take Me Home

To Division 1-AA

Please Take Mike Brey Hooooooome...or Anywhere Else Besides South Bend. With the loss against West Virginia on Wednesday, Notre Dame's basketball team dropped to 1-7, tied with DePaul for the second-worst conference record. Interestingly enough, DePaul would win any conceivable "tiebreaker" against ND since the Blue Demon's lone conference W was against ND. The salt in ND's conference wound is the fact that the seven losses have been by a combined 23 points, or an average of 3pts/loss.

The personal insult added to an injured conference mark came that same Wednesday evening. A local community club in Northern Virginia with which I am affiliated was hosting their bi-monthly meeting at a special location in Arlington. Finishing the meeting just before 9pm, I left the conference room of the restaurant/bar and immediately encountered a large contingency of West Virginia alumni: our meeting had, in fact, been held at the same location as the WVU Alumni Association's National Capital Area Chapter's regular "gamewatches."

I sat down in time to see exactly two shot attempts: the Chris Quinn 3-pointer at 0:49, and the subsequent miss by Quinn at 0:05. Five seconds later we were all being serenaded by 110 decibels of pure JD.
