BGI: The Right-Wing Rag, Part I

It's finally come to this.

Blue & Gold Illustrated's letters-to-the-editor section (Fan Forum) has descended into the depths of allowing readers to publish comments regarding their narrow-minded, homophobic views. I was reading the latest issue when I read the following letter and immediately thought, "what the f*ck???"

Full text is included for posterity--cited content in bold.

It's Professional, Not Personal

"Regarding Coach Willingham's firing: I was pleased with his hiring, and after three years of confusion and poor football decisions am now pleased with his firing. In simple words, Ty was not a very good football coach. I am talking about what has come to be called the Xs and Os.

People love to say Willingham was a good person, classy, good representative etc. It reminds me of saying about a CEO of a large corporation: 'He never cooked the books, embezzled, or had a mistress on the side.' Unfortunately the stock in the company went in the dumpster three years in a row. Would you tell the stockholders, 'What's wrong with you guys, don't you realize what a great person our CEO is? What more do you want?'

In over 50 years of watching Notre Dame football, I have never seen the team quit on the field as often as I have over the past three years under Willingham. It was time for Willingham to go, it's really as simple as that.

Finally, to say I was disappointed at Monk Malloy's self-serving statements to the press is an understaement. It particularly galled me to hear him say, 'In my 18 years as President of Notre Dame, only two days embarrassed me.' That of course, being the period of Willingham's firing.

Let me say to Monk that after almost 50 years after my graduation from Notre Dame ('56), the two days that most embarrassed me were the advent of the 'gay film festival' on the campus of Our Lady's school, and the continued showing of the disgusting Vagina Monologues sleaze under the banner of 'entertainment' at Notre Dame.

Both, Father Malloy, occurred under your hand and 'leadership'. I guess embarrassment is in the eye of the beholder. Notre Dame will be far better under the guidance of Father John Jenkins and Coach Charlie Weis, I am certain."
